The Disco of Our Era

Swedish House Mafia, On a their Final Tour.
So I haven't posted in over a year. Too long of a hiatus for many, but for me there have been other facets of life, some good, some bad, but all learning situations. And as I try and make strides out into the world I realize more and more why I need to continue writing. It's not just for me, but I feel compelled to write about the human condition and document, whether fictionally or non-fictionally the times I am in.

So this post will be dedicated to what I can see the generations to come remembering us for. Music. We have had such a diverse musical spectrum in the 2000's. And while there have been great bands to spring up, there is a genre of music that has seemedly taken over. That is the House/ Trance/ Dubstep/ Techno uprising that has swept through this generation.

Much like the Disco era that we remember in the 1970's. These are the oldies we will be listening to in our 40's and 50's wishing we could dance like we used to. We'll yearn for the giant crowds, the scantily clothed and beautiful women, for some the trips on drugs, for all the feel of the beat. The overall coming together of people and the love that the music promoted.

Because that's what this music is about. Love. It is what takes the downtrodden and puts a smile on their faces. It is what takes hate and misery in life and makes it all go away for five or 10 minutes, maybe even two hours, or a few days with giant festivals like EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival). It calms the soul and pumps up the crowd all at the same time. It is intense and powerful, yet beautiful and serene.

I have clearly become smitten with this genre that many can argue has been around for years, but now it is an accepted culture and not an one that is viewed as an outsider. But it is newer for me, I have only been a fan for about two to three years now. And I have loved every single second of it. And with a modern world that can take this music and associate it's technologically created sounds with advancement in technology it self, this music can only expand along with the ever-expanding growth of technology.

We haven't seen the best of this music, and I can see no end in sight. So whether we are seeing a music that we will look back upon as the early beginnings of something great, or if we see it fizzle and fade out, and have to view it as Disco, we are certainly lucky to live in a time where the trendy music is something to cherish, and something most can relate to, because everyone can use a mood booster every now and then, and this music is better than any pill or rock or grass could ever do, and with those accessories of life, well that's just existence at a whole 'nother level.
